So how is it different from the flu?

Both are contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. COVID-19 seems to spread quicker and causes more severe illnesses.

COVID-19 symptoms can also take longer to appear than the flu and can be contagious for a longer time.

Symptoms of COVID-19

Symptoms of COVID-19 can be mild to severe. The symptoms usually show in affected people after 2 - 14 days of exposure.

Symptoms may include: - Fever or chills - Shortness of breath - Headache - Fatigue -  Body or muscle aches -  Loss of taste and smell -  Cough -  Sore throat -  Congestion or runny nose -  Nausea -  Vomiting -  Diarrhea The CDC is continuing to learn about the virus, so new symptoms are possible.

According to the CDC, older adults and those with an underlying medical condition have a higher chance of developing serious complications. 

When to seek  emergency attention?

Call 911 or go straight to the emergency room if you are experiencing any of the signs below:  - Persistent pain or pressure in the chest - Have difficulty breathing - And other symptoms that are concerning to you.
